Jonathan Cruz
Anthony Cruz, a wrestler, poses for a picture at WMS.

The following is a full transcript of the interview given by Anthony Cruz to Jonathan Cruz of The Warrior Messenger about what it takes to be a wrestler.

JONATHAN CRUZ: What is your name and what do you like about wrestling?

ANTHONY CRUZ: My name is Anthony Cruz from The Warrior Messenger as well. For me, you could make friends there, and compete.  You can also wrestle your own weight class, or even better, wrestle upper class.

JC: What made you start doing wrestling?

AC: My friend, Michael Hernandez, inspired me to do wrestling because I like intensive sports.

JC: How long can you go in a wrestling match?

AC: I mean, a wrestling match is 6 minutes.

JC: What workout do you do at your wrestling practice?

AC: We do cardio pushups, situps, and team workouts too.

JC: What is your favorite move to do on somebody?

AC: I would say a double.

JC: How do you cut weight? Is it difficult?

AC: I would say yes, it’s a bit difficult.

JC: If you are wrestling someone bigger what move would you do?

AC: To be honest, I’ve wrestled people that were bigger than me and had a higher weight class. I would try to go to a single or a double or a snap down.

JC: I read that wrestling is a mental sport, do you agree with that statement?

AC: Yes.

JC: Why do you think so?

AC:  Because wrestling,  you could take out a lot of stress or if you have a bad day, and you’re upset you could go to wrestling practice and take it all out there.

JC: Do you see more maturity after you started because I heard wrestling is 90% mental and 10% physical, and practice is all mental?

AC: Yeah, I would agree with that statement.

JC: Thank you for your time, do you have anything else to add?

AC: I heard that you wrestle too.  You want to know something?  I think I’d beat you.

JC: We’re not talking about that, sorry this is my grade.  Is there anything else you want to add?

AC: No, sir.

JC: Thank you for your time.

AC: Thank you for your time.
