Do you have a pet, if so did you know that even presidents have pets, that’s right, several of the US presidents have owned pets. Let me introduce you to them.

George Washington – 1st US President (1789 -1797)

He was an avid dog lover who kept dozens of foxhounds with unique names like Sweet Lips, Tipsy, and Drunkard. Besides hounds, he owned terriers, spaniels, and other dogs, along with several horses and birds. 🐕

John Quincy Adam – 6th US President (1825 – 1829)

His wife Louisa kept silkworms and she used their silk for her personal sewing projects 🐛

Andrew Jackson – 7th US President (1829 – 1837)

He had an African Grey Parrot named Poll, he was famous for allegedly being removed from the former president’s 1845 funeral for swearing. The parrot reportedly learned to mimic profanities from Jackson himself. 🦜

Ulysses S. Grant – 18th US President (1869 – 1877)

He owned several horses named Butcher’s Boy, Cincinnati, Egypt, Jeff Davis, Jennie, Julia, Mary, and St. Louis. 🐴

Theodore Roosevelt – 26th US President (1901 – 1909)

Theodore Roosevelt’s White House was famous for its chaotic, zoo-like atmosphere, hosting over 40 animals during his presidency. Pets ranged from dogs and cats to a badger named Josiah, a one-legged rooster named Fierce, and a garter snake named Emily Spinach. 🐕‍🦺🐈‍⬛🐓🐍

Woodrow Wilson – 28th US President (1913 – 1921

He had a flock of 48 sheep that lived in the White House lawn 🐑

Calvin Coolidge – 30th US President (1923 – 1929)

He and his wife Grace had a pet raccoon named Rebecca. 🦝

Franklin D. Roosevelt – 32nd US President (1933 – 1945)

He had a German Shepherd named Major 🐕

Lyndon B. Johnson – 36th US President (1963 – 1969)

He had 2 beagles named Him and Her. 🐶

Ronald Reagan – 40th US President (1981 – 1989)

He had a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Rex. 🦮

George W. Bush – 43rd US President (2001 – 2009)

He had 3 dogs, their names were Spot “Spotty” Fletcher, Barney, and Miss Beazley which was nicknamed “Beazley Weazley.” 🐩

Joe Biden – 46th US President (2021 – 2025)

He has a grey tabby cat named Willow who he and his wife Jill adopted after the cat jumped onstage during a rally in Pennsylvania in 2020. Willow, who Biden described as having “no limits,” often slept on top of the president’s head during his term. 🐱
