Hello everyone, my name is Anaya Choudhury and I was accepted by the NJHS last year in 7th grade, and this article is about how NJHS helped me and can help you. NJHS helped me by getting me out of my comfort zone and also taught me how to be a good leader and citizen.
What is NJHS
Ms. McHale, a language arts and graphic novel teacher in Woodbridge Middle School, is in charge of the WMS NJHS. McHale explained what the core of NJHS is, “I want to say one of our main purposes is that we have the 5 pillars: scholarship, leadership, service, citizenship, and character but we also want to give the student an opportunity to be a great leader and to really think about what they want to do for our school and the community. Also they propose to give back and want to give to other people.”
McHale also explained that the NJHS uses student volunteers for orientation, back to school night, and events like Breast Cancer Awareness. She said there is a great group of students this year.
She shared how great our group is in NJHS and how excited she is for this school year, “Well, I am really excited for this year. I think we have a really great group. I also look forward to it because the induction is early this year, so when we introduce some seventh graders, then we are going to have more students in NJHS and students to help us in the spring.”
How does NJHS help us?
NJHS has become an extremely important part of my life. NJHS made me a better person by talking to more people, volunteering, and helping more people out, which made me feel like I am part of something that is bigger than myself. It also helped me by focusing on my grades and keeping my schedule on track.
NJHS has also been a tremendous help to other students at WMS. For example, 8th grader, Shea Dohoney said, “It helps me focus on my grades and to push myself more into school.” I agree with Shea because I really have a better understanding of what happens behind the scenes of school.
Gabrielle Tonelli is an 8th grader and historian of NJHS at WMS. She shared how it helped her this year and last year, “It helps me volunteer in different things like back to school night and different things like that, and it helps me get different volunteer hours too.”
Alyssa Alvarado is the president of NJHS and she shared how NJHS helps her, “It helped me be better at writing, and it helped me become a leader.”
