Do you hear brain rot phrases every day you come to school? Yea, it has taken over the school by now. Phrases students say almost everyday that echo around the school. Some might like it, others might not, having different opinions on this. We interviewed 7th grader Nicole Fisher for her opinions.
Would you say you use “Brain rot” terms daily, and why do you?
“Yeah I do, cause it’s funny.” – Many people say these terms because it is popular all over the internet and they find it fun to say. It has become a trend so others do it, or to annoy friends and make them cringe sometimes. People who say it daily are probably the ones always online or doom scrolling.
Why do you decide to say some of these phrases?
“I decide to because I think these phrases are silly and stupid, but also funny to say to my friends.” – Many students decide to say these phrases because it’s silly or funny to say. Some students may like to say certain phrases or just say it to friends. People don’t really decide to say it, they just repeat what is said all the time.
At what grade did you start getting influenced to say “brain rot” phrases?
“Like 6th grade because people are stupid. People are very stupid in 6th grade just to let you know.” – When students start going to middle school their personality changes with them. In middle school many students start getting social media and learn about this whole brain rot stuff. Getting way too crazy with it and becoming silly.
What phrases do you say all the time and who got you into it?
“I say “Tung Tung Tung Sahur” and “I just hit the jackpot” are some that I say. I got into it by just watching tiktoks and from other friends and classmates around me saying that 100 times.” – These phrases are popular because of TikTok and social media. Students hear their friends say them and start copying them too. Both friends and the fact that it is trending is making students say these.
Which one do you like better, “Baby Boo” or “67?”
“Baby Boo” – People like this better because it isn’t as annoying as the “67” one, I also find it fun to say. It’s also a more creative meme compared to the “67” meme.
How do you think you can help students with not saying “brain rot phrases?”
“Just don’t say it because you sound either stupid or just continue saying it then.” – Just not trying to say might be hard because it is already stuck in their head. Sometimes saying it too much isn’t good either, just doing it for fun sometimes. There is really no way of stopping them, but they could decide to.
