This year for Halloween, a “no costume” rule was established. Since Woodbridge Middle School students were visiting Colonia High School (CHS), this is somewhat understandable. But, WMS students had something else to say about it.

The reason why our spooky attire was not permitted this year was most likely because costumes on Halloween aren’t allowed at CHS. We, as guests, need to respect the high school’s rules. Many students submitted this opinion on a Google Form, and it makes sense!

When asked they’re opinion on whether students should’ve been able to dress up or not, Harnit Kaur, a WMS 7th grader, said wearing our costumes would’ve been more “fun and festive”. She also explained how she missed wearing her costume in school, “I feel like that was a fun part of school, because we don’t have those small elementary school parties anymore”.

Janae Li, also in seventh grade, had another opinion, “Yes, [we should be able to wear costumes] as long as it’s not too inappropriate or too showy, but I just feel like we should be able to wear our costumes to school because it’s Halloween”. This is right. If we could dress up, then costumes could be too gory or showing too much skin. That would be inappropriate for school. Another student said “it was fun to walk around in your costume”.

An anonymous person in a poll said, “Well, no, because we are in a different school, and they may allow different things than we do, and we don’t want to run the risk of getting in trouble.”  This person has a great point, CHS is a whole separate school and they have their own set of rules.

Wearing a costume would’ve been more fun for the students, and would get us pumped for trick-or-treating that night.  However, as many people said, CHS’s rules need to be taken seriously. They were nice enough to let us stay here; we need to follow their rules and regulations.
