WMS is now employing a 3D printer to help around the school for various activities. It is currently in Mr. Cardoso’s lab on the main floor.

The origins of the 3D printer date back to when “Dr. Crowe had been talking about it for a while” with Mr. Cardoso. Mr. Blasena, the technology teacher, explains that: “It literally showed up in the mail. The school district ordered it. We didn’t know.” The printer showed up in early September.

Although nothing is certain, the 3D printer will possibly be used for Art, STEM, possibly GNT Enrichment, and Science Honors. Mr. Cardoso added on the fact that it could really be used for any subject.

The printer will definitely be used in future projects. “It would be used for PBSIS, like a customized prize.” Mr. Blasena stated. He also added, “It would also be for STEM.”

3 Fun Facts about 3D Printing:
3D Printing actually started in the ‘80s: In 1984, Chuck Hull invented a process called stereolithography, which used UV lasers to solidify photopolymer that created 3D parts layer by layer. (A little less sophisticated than 3D printers now.)
3D Printer is on TV you watch: 3D printer is used for TVs and movies. The props can take hours to create and apply. But now hours can be shaved off by printing the props, and not having to start directly from scratch. The props can also be masks, made from 3D printers with blood applied to the face, and fake hair on the character.
3D Printing is going to space: The idea is for robots to go to space and construct buildings on the lunar surfaces.
