Dallas Winston ( Dally)
If your favorite character is Dallas, both you and him share a boisterous personality on the outside, but on the inside there may be things that you need help with. In the book Dally is characterized by being a brave, outgoing, and strong-minded person, but on the inside he has mental issues. Dallas does not strive to be a strong idol for the younger members of the gang, but they still look up to him regardless of the fact.
When we asked Chloe Jencik, an 8th grader at WMS, about her similarities with Dallas’ personality, she responded by saying “ When we fall, and hurt ourselves we don’t cry, and we’re always willing to take the fall for our friends”, alluding to Dallas’ brave and robust personality.
Johnny Cade
If you take a liking to the character Johnny Cade, you two may share the same sweet, compassionate, and caring personality. In the book, although Johnny was abused, beaten up and constantly insulted, he persevered and made his friends his top priority. Both you and Johnny are extremely compassionate souls, and never fail to make others smile, even if you’re not happy yourself.
When we asked Ameilia Carrera, an 8th grader at WMS about the personality traits that both her and Johnny have in common, she responded with, “ Both me and Johnny are scared, but we’re willing to step up,despite the situation.”
Adrianna Boniela, another 8th grader at WMS also responded with, “How he’s brave and kind hearted, and willing to help his friends out”
Ponyboy Curtis
If your favorite character is Ponyboy, you both may share the same childlike and inquisitive personality. Both of you are sensitive, and tend to take things personally,or feel things deeply . In the novel, Ponyboy is described as introspective and overly sensitive, but his sensitivity did not stop him from being extremely observant and artistic.
When asked about the personality traits that they share with Ponyboy Curtis, Alicia Lopez, an 8th grader at WMS said, “ I’d like to see him as a very child-like person. He’s the youngest outsider, and we get to see him grow up.”
Two-Bit Matthew’s (Keith)
If your favorite character is Two-Bit Mathews you might be like him in the way of being funny to keep the mood always lightened up in any situation, with this personality he also keeps the greasers glued together despite the predicament .
We asked Mr.Malmstrom, the Journalism teacher at WMS, about his thoughts on the character Two-Bit Matthews, and he responded with, “ I believe that Two-bit is the glue of the greasers gang without Two-Bit, I feel like the group would fall apart, or the greasers wouldn’t be as happy as they would be.”
Sodapop Curtis
Sodapop is one of the most widely underrated favorite characters, but has lots of good personality traits that make him a good character and brother. For example when the 3 brothers fought at the near end of the book, he forgives them right away which is a good trait to have just to forgive the people who make you upset. And of course he dropped out of school for Ponyboy to continue his path and save money for Ponyboy’s college by working at a nearby gas station.
If your favorite character is SodaPop you guys share a loving and kind personality.
Darrell Curtis (Darry)
If your favorite character is the beloved Darrell Curtis, you both share the same benevolent, determined and hardworking personality. In the book, Darrell takes on both the motherly and fatherly duties due to the fact that his parents tragically passed away. Darell makes it his top priority to provide for his brothers and even the members of the Greaser gang. Darell is an intelligently written character, and proves this by providing us with depth in his dialogue, and character in his personality
In conclusion, every outsiders character has their own intricate and developed personality, that adds not only depth and storyline, but provides the readers with a picture of reality. The outsiders is more than a fiction novel, but a plethora of stories combined into one book that will live past generations, and teach valuable lessons to those who read it
