Yo soy Latina.
While they eat burgers, hot dogs, and pizza,
I eat pupusas, empanadas, tostones, and plenty more.
Yo soy Latina.
While they listen to pop, rock, and other genres.
I listen to salsa, bachata, dembow, and all latin music styles.
Yo soy Latina.
While they sing to, “All I want for Christmas is You,” during that time of year,
I sing to, “Mi Burrito Sabanero,” at midnight on the 24th.
Yo soy Latina.
While they talk to family members in English,
I’m talking to my tias, tios, papas, and abuelos in Spanish.
Yo soy Latina.
While they wave their American flags,
I’ll wave my Colombian and Salvadoran ones.
Yo soy Latina.
Even though I was born in this country,
I will never forget my culture and the sacrifices my family made.
Yo soy Latina!
