The following is a full transcript of the interview given by Mia Torres Zapata to The Warrior Messenger’s Olivia Sanchez about Students options of state testing.
(The Warrior Messenger) OLIVIA SANCHEZ, HOST: Thank you for your time, I’m working on something about students’ opinions on state testing. May I record this interview?
Mia Torres Zapata;: Yes.
OJS: How do you spell your first and last name?
MTZ: M-I-A T-O-R-R-E-S Z-A-P-A-T-A
OJS: What is your opinion on state testing?
MTZ: I think it’s a waste of time and I think it just gives a lot of kids anxiety over the testing and that kids also panic because we can’t remember what we did over the school- time. So I think it’s kind of like a waste of our time, it gives us a lot of anxiety. Yeah.
OJS: Okay, next question. When do you think is an appropriate age to begin testing?
MTZ: Uhm, I feel like testing should begin around the age of 15.
OJS: Okay, uhm, how important do you think state testing is?
MTZ: Uh, not really too important because like I said, it gives kids anxiety.
OJS: Uhm Okay, What emotions do you associate with state testing?
MTZ: I just said anxiety. What, hahaha.
OJS: What other subjects do you think should also be in state testing besides ELA, math, and science?
MTZ: None.
OJS: Where do you think you should take the NJSLA in? The same classroom or somewhere different?
MTZ: Somewhere different.
OJS: Okay, is there anything else you would like to add?
MTZ: Uhm, nah.
OJS: Okay, thank you for your time. Uhm, Can I take a picture of you?
MTZ: Okay.
