The following transcription is an interview given by Amelia Carrero to Mrs. Douglas about how she got into education.
Amelia Carrero (host): May I record this interview?
Mrs. Douglas (ELA teacher at WMS): Sure!
AC: So I’m from the warrior messenger, as I said. I’m here to make a short section about special recognition about why teachers teach, since you know it’s in the name. So my question is what made you want to teach ELA?
MD: So I’ve always been a huge literary nerd, if you will. When I was 5 years old I used to write books and I would make my parents “check out” books from my “library”. I studied literature and journalism in college and afterwards I started writing for a celebrity gossip website and I realized it was not fulfilling writing about Kim Kardashian and Amanda Bynes and all these crazy celebrities.
So I went back and I started substitute teaching to see if that’s what I wanted to do and I absolutely fell in love with him. So I went back, I started studying education and started teaching in Perth Amboy, New Jersey and the rest is history!
AC: That’s really nice! I can relate to the first part because I used to make books. They didn’t make any sense, they were just a bunch of random drawings, but it was fun! Anything else you would like to add?
MD: This was an amazing interview!
AC: Thank you so much! Thanks so much for your time!
