The following is a full transcript of the interview given by Mrs. Duffy to The Warrior Messenger’s Zara Atif about what it takes to be a language arts teacher.
(The Warrior Messenger) ZARA ATIF (HOST): May I please record this interview?
MRS. DUFFY (6th Grade Language Arts Teacher): Yes.
ZA: How do you spell your first and last name?
MD: J-U-L-I-A D-U-F-F-Y
ZA: What is your role at WMS?
MD: Language Arts teacher for 6th grade.
ZA: Why did you decide to become an ELA teacher?
MD: Because I love writing, I love reading, and I wanted to be a teacher because I had some very mean teachers that made me feel really low and I decided that I would never let a kid feel that way and I aim to make sure they don’t.
ZA: What is the hardest part about being an English teacher?
MD: Kids that act up and that don’t pay attention and appreciate the writing process and reading.
ZA: Was ELA always your passion or was it something else? And if it was your passion why? And if it was something else what was it and why?
MD: It was always my passion because I’m good at it.
ZA: How much time do you spend on grading papers?
MD: Too much time, but it’s harder for me because I grade essays, you know it takes longer, so I would say about an hour and a half to two hours a day.
ZA: How much schooling did you have to take to become a Language Arts teacher?
MD: About 4 years.
ZA: Is there anything else you would like to add?
MD: I love both my reporters, they are my hearts.
ZA: May I please take your picture?
MD: Yes you can.
ZA: Thank you for your time.
