Have you ever read Martian Chronicles?
Many scientists suggest that we need a backup plan for our existence and future home. What if a natural disaster occurred that will destroy life on our planet? What if there is nuclear war for a long time? Or there is a super volcano that will doom our world?
Scientists choose Mars because it has a healthy environment for human bones and muscles. It has a thin atmosphere that provides some protection from cosmic radiation and small meteoroids. We have abundant water locked beneath the surface essential for drinking, oxygen production and rocket fuel.
But some are not in agreement with this idea. Many are saying that humans can only safely live up to four years before radiation exposure becomes potentially fatal. Since there is low gravity, it can lead to bone density loss of 1-2% per month. Many argue that there is some form of life- even microbes, that humans don’t have a right to interfere with their ecosystem.
So here is the question: Do you want to live on Mars or not?
