(Vice Principal) MR O’HALLORAN: Brian, B r i a n. My last name is O’Halloran: O ‘ H a l l o r a n.

MM and AD: What is your role here at WMS?

MO:  I am the vice principal.

MM and AD: Why did you want to become a vice principal?

MO: I wanted to be vice principal because I realized I can help more people than in my capacity as a teacher.

MM and AD: How do you become a vice principal?

MO: To become a vice principal you need to have a minimum of 5 years teaching experience. You need a master’s degree in something like education leadership, that’s what mine is in. You also need to pass the Praxis, which is a certification test. The state of New Jersey has a specific score you need to achieve in order to do that. You also obviously need to be interviewed and accepted by the board of education.

MM and AD: What did you teach before?

MO: I taught at Woodbridge High School. I taught Creative Writing; taught all three levels of Journalism, 1 2 and 3. I also wrote that curriculum, taught Creative Writing 1 and 2, and wrote that curriculum, too. Taught 9th and 10th grade English also wrote the curriculum for 10th grade English at one point, too–I like writing curricula.

MM and AD: What is the craziest thing you saw with your eyes?

MO: Related to what?

MM: Like things or actions.

MO: Like what a student did?

AD: More like what you saw anybody do.

MO: I couldn’t even tell you.

MM and AD: Does this job ever stress you out?

MO: Yes! Every job stresses you out.

MM and AD: If you had to cover a teacher for a week who would you cover for?

MO: If I had to cover one teacher for a week… I cover a lot of classes to begin with, if we are missing subs. I’ve covered Art classes, E.L.A. classes, Special ED classes, covered Science classes, covered multiple classes in one period in a large room. I would cover any teacher if I had to.

AD: Is there anything else you would like to add?

MO: Great question! This is my 4th school year at WMS; it’s been very wonderful, very fulfilling, [and] I feel like the most important thing for me as an administrator, my goal, is to make sure every student feels comfortable and safe coming to school. We are doing a very good job with that. School can be very difficult for a variety of reasons. It’s important to me that every student knows that there is somebody they can always go talk to. My door is always open.
