Have you ever wondered where those creepy bird masks came from? Well, I’ll tell you where they came from. In the 14th century, in Europe, plague was a major crisis. Often called the black death, the bubonic plague was thought to be spread by air. This is how we got the “bird mask.” The mask was filled with aromatic spices like herbs. The reason the masks became popular as a Halloween mask was because of their eeriness and symbolism of death.
