FOUNDERS OF STUDENT COUNCIL: The money Mrs. Burke and Mrs. Dymond raised to help Breast Cancer Awareness.

Rachelle Estinvil, Fall Author

Helping around schools, starting bake sales, holding breast cancer walks to help around the school. These are all things Student Council does to help the Woodbridge Middle School Community.

The founders of of this wonderful club are Mrs. Burke, a 7th grade Math teacher, and Mrs. Dymond, a 6th and 8th grade Math teacher, who also teaches Language Arts.

Mrs. Burke started student council because “she wanted to work together with Mrs. Dymond to do good things for the school”. Mrs. Dymond adds on to the fact that “Mr. Keuscher was giving it up, and they thought that it would be a fun thing to do together”.

The two teachers’ ideas of a good student council candidate are qualities like “being a positive role model” and going “above and beyond” to do the right thing. Other qualities they require in a student is that the student “wants to help the community”.

Five candidate students that the founders recommended were Nicole Galicia, Ryan Kalin, Sanaii Williamson, Madison Rackett, and Erick Fraga.

7th grade student, Erick Fraga, feels “happy” when helping around the school. He’s enjoyed helping around since his 5th grade student council, and decided to join the club in middle school.

Williamson, also a 7th grader said she “hoped to help people who need help outside of school to do fundraisers to help”. She also joined student council because she “feels it’s good to help the school community”

7th grader, Madison Rackett, explained what she hoped to accomplish in joining student council. “I want to help the school be a better place.”

Nicole Galicia, an 8th grader, who has been in student council since 6th grade, has the experience and loves helping around the school. Galicia explained how she feels helping around the school, “Helpful, because some people don’t do this stuff and we do.” She hoped to “make an impact on the school” when joining the first time.

Ryan Kalin, an 8th grader who has been in student council since 7th grade, says he “feels good” when helping out the school because he’s “doing things to help out the school/community”.

Thank you for helping out our school, Student Council!
