Since the third marking period in February the band and choir have been practicing their music for the Spring Concert.
One of the biggest helps when planning and making the concert are the parents. “Having that open line of trust and communication is important. Getting rides for rehearsals after school and rehearsals before school, encouraging their children to practice, and just allowing them to do this in the first place,” said Mr. McGuire
Band teacher, Mrs.Maneri, further added on to this, “Parents bring in everyone to rehearsal, making sure people are practicing at home.”
Not only do the parents help but the Staff as well. “Staff has been amazing when they let us have extra rehearsals at school,” said Mrs. Maneri, “They help us at the concert [too].”
For students, the concert was both a personal and musical milestone. Stephanie Perugini, a band member, shared her excitement about performing ‘Anabelle Lee’, saying, “I just want to be heard in my clarinet part, I’m gonna be real.”
Perugini described the thrill of being on stage: “I know a lot of people are scared to do it, but it’s one of my favorite things ever. I enjoy performing more than almost anything.” She also reflected on the concert’s significance, saying, “It really set in before [the concert] that this was my last ever [concert], so I tried to put my all into it.”
Just because the concert went well this year doesn’t mean that improvements aren’t being planned for next year. Between having the concerts closer to the 2nd and 4th marking period and learning music earlier, next year’s concerts are going to be the best ones yet!
