The Danger of Online Businesses: Be Cautious of The Internet

Have you ever bought something and it just turned out to be straight garbage? Of course you have! Everyone has probably had that experience before.

One time I just wanted to have a good time after a nice steamy shower, and dry my hair. But wow, this blowdryer might be a little too good for me!

I saw so many nice and positive reviews about this hairdryer on Tiktok shop. It was luxurious with a gold spinning fan and even a cooling system that blows out cold air. All of that for only twenty dollars. So what could go wrong? It’s just as plausible as the other multi-billionaire worthy shopsites.

So I flicked the switch, and it was amazing. For a second I thought I was using a flamethrower. It wanted to dry my hair so good and fast that it just began shooting out flames. How nice?

Be Weary of Online/Social Media Businesses

Buying off of online businesses and bootleg places on Tiktok or Instagram can be very dangerous and it requires a lot of precaution. Even buying off of Tiktok Shop may not be safe or quality either.

When buying off of Tiktok Shop, it is very important that you conduct research about the safeness of Tiktok Shop. Or don’t, if you’re a risk taker. Don’t be complaining when your hair catches on fire.

Tiktok Shop itself can be relatively safe, but sometimes the quality of the product may be definitely not as expected.

It is crucial to check the reviews and research online about this product being sold. Sometimes the reviews may be fake, or made by bots. Ever seen reviews on products that nobody buys? It’s five stars, and it says, “Wow! This blow–dryer is a must have. My little children love them, and it just brings a great bundle of joy to our little family!”

And then you scroll down and just see the same review over and over again, made by “different” people? That’s a sign that you’re about to get duped. So before you click that “confirm purchase” button again, make sure the product you’re buying is not a bunch of baloney.

It is good to ask others such as in the comments of the ad which is promoting the product, and see if they’ll tell you if buying this item is worth it. If the comments are off, that’s pretty sketchy.

If the product seems like it might be bootleg, do not buy that product and buy one that is more verified and confirmed to be safe and good quality.

Not only is Tiktok shop dangerous, you also have to beware of accounts that have their own external links to sell certain products on Tiktok or Instagram. Some of these accounts can sell consumables, or drugs.

The Pink Sauce Incident

“Would you ever try a sauce that is the color of a unicorn’s tail? Don’t worry, we have just the sauce for you!”

A woman who went by “Chef Pii,” (Veronica Shaw), had produced her own product of unicorn sauce a.k.a. pink sauce that had a baby pink color (sometimes). This was on her Tiktok account, which her bio had contained an external link to her website for placing orders for pink sauce in 2022.

It was a sauce that contained a variety of ingredients, like milk and mayonnaise, but no one knew that before they did research. The ingredient list on it was inaccurate, which means there were other ingredients that people were totally oblivious about.

Who knows what else was in that poisoning concoction?

This was a dipping sauce that you can use to dip your food like fried chicken into, and to consume what may be delicious. There were many reviews and allegations about this product. (That turned out to be true).

From TasteofHome, “When asked whether her product was approved by the Food and Drug Administration, she stated that her product is not a ‘medical product,’ causing further backlash from commenters who noted that the Food and Drug Administration is responsible for regulating food alongside drugs.”

I guess she didn’t know what the “Food” in “Food and Drug Administration” could have possibly meant!

This was a huge issue for others online that had especially purchased the product because it wasn’t even validated, and yet she was going around selling it publicly to many.

Also, Glamour states that customers noticed that the sauce’s color was changing between batches, “and that the sauce contained milk which, when packaged in a bag, could be infected by botulism.” Awww, it even comes with a side of food poisoning, so sweet of her.

Since the sauce was packaged in a bag, some people who had bought and consumed this product had unfortunately experienced food poisoning. Sometimes it got so severe that some others were even hospitalized, now that’s a little uncanny.

Stay Away From Online Illegal Drug-Dealers

Finally, something else that has been going around recently is the amount of illegal drug-dealers that have been going around online, influencing kids and teens to buy.

Hey kids, you ever wanna ruin your path of life and decide to start the path to addiction, mental illness, and physical dependency? Social media is just the place for you! (Only if you don’t know how or want to be safe).

The amount of illegal drug-dealers on these platforms are alarming because the amount of children and teens that try or become addicted to drugs is increasing rapidly in the country.

The CornerstoneHealingcenter analyzed teen drug usage and found that vaping has become the main form of drug usage,, “Teen drug use is changing, with a big uptick in vaping and cannabis use. Vaping has become super popular among teens, often with nicotine or THC.”

A big reason for this increase can definitely be the accounts on Tiktok and Instagram that “discreetly” sell to anyone. With the search of certain keywords, these accounts can be easily found online.

Even the website Goodhousekeeping is aware of the problem, “Media Matters for America alerted us to issues like deepfake doctors and black market vapes.” The use of the internet must require a cautious and logical mindset because not only are there black market vapes being sold, but also fake doctors. “Fake doctors?” you say.

And yes, fake doctors.

From dea.gov, phones have been turned into a shop from drug traffickers, to “market, sell, buy, and deliver deadly, fake prescription pills and other dangerous drugs.”

Just don’t be dumb enough to buy prescription pills off a non-trusted source!

Although THC (the chemical that gives that high feeling, in cannabis) is not considered particularly physically dangerous, it can lead to mental deprivation and chronic depression, especially with the effects it has on motivation and causing derealization.

Since THC can already cause you huge mental trouble, it would be even worse to buy them from online since almost all of them are bootleg, and can contain other chemicals or other drugs that would not normally be in cannabis anyways.

Woah, the internet is crazy!

On Tiktok, you may even find comments saying things like, “Buy from me!” and then they include a list of illegal drugs they may have like psychedelic mushrooms, meth, cocaine, and more. These drugs are already extremely dangerous but who knows what else is in them.

Therefore, the internet can be a wild place and a lure to target children and teenagers. These people can easily be manipulative into getting you to buy their product. It is always crucial to remember to think smart, logical, and don’t let others lead you blind.
