Health is really your wealth in this challenge
Mar 15, 2019
Mr. Harris takes on the challenge of teaching Woodbridge Middle Schoolers about health with the first annual Health is Your Wealth Challenge, taking place in March.
Mr. Harris, the vice principal of WMS, stated “I made the challenge because I used to be a health teacher” and “I was a health teacher from 2000 to 2008 before I became an administrator.” He wanted students to learn about their health. The first day of this challenge took place on March 4th in the WMS auditorium.
This challenge consists of 475 questions and 25 diagram based questions. Students will step up to the plate and answer the questions one by one. If a student put it in the basics, it’s practically a spelling bee of health! A healthy bee!
Harris said that he wanted to open it up to 7th graders because of how, “not many of the 8th graders wanted to participate.” He said that he didn’t open it up to 6th graders as well because “6th graders aren’t ready yet”. Mr. Harris took the questions from the 8th grade health book.
If you are participating then you are in luck. Whether you win or lose you will get a certificate of participation. Although if you are the lucky one that does win, you get a $200 prize!
Jeffrey De Leon Vaca stated that he wanted to do the challenge because he’s “pretty knowledgeable” in health, and he wants to win the $200 prize. Actually, all the interviewed participants stated they wanted to win the prize.
All of these students are studying hard for this exciting championship round, if they make it. Amaan Shiraz, a 7th grade student, said that he “tries to study at a strict 4 hours on weekends and 1 hour on weekdays” schedule. Madison Rackett, an 8th grader, said that she just tries to study “whenever [she] can”. All of the students also said they would definitely participate in the challenge again if it was opened up to them again in the future.
We all hope to see you there, supporting your friends and classmates.
