Moana is the latest Disney princess everyone is talking about. Like the modern princesses, she is brave and bold and determined. Disney always has the same idea of a brave princess that leaves her safe comfortable home, adventuring to a dangerous place that they aren’t used to. Finding their fate, their destiny and who they are supposed to be. Also, it wouldn’t be a Disney movie without the songs of what they want and how they are going to make it happen.

What makes Moana different than the rest, is she wants to go on an adventure to save her island. She doesn’t wait for her prince to come, she doesn’t find a true love, the only thing she falls in love with is the ocean.  Moana defies family to pursue her own quest and that quest is to save her people, her home, and to remind them what they used to be. Her parents are holding her back from going on the ocean to protect her, but that doesn’t stop her. She is basically a superhero princess.

Moana and Rapunzel in the movie Tangled are alike because they are both getting held back and are trapped where they can be safe instead of adventuring and learning more things than what they are used to. Moana and Rapunzel seek help from a more experienced man who holds her in a stuck up contempt until she’s proved herself brave and strong and not just a dainty little princess that waits for her prince to save her. Also these princesses are like Merida a princess from the movie Brave. All she wants to do is find her fate, not a love.

Moana is a bold and independent girl who won’t let anyone tell her she is just a princess and just a mortal. I think Moana is a great example and it interferes with the women’s movement March For Our Lives. The Women’s March is to harness the political power of diverse women and their communities to create transformative social change. And I think Moana would be a huge part of this movement.

As I say Moana is different from all the other princesses, I really mean that because the music isn’t just sang by her. There is one song that is sung by Moana. All the same song just in different parts in the movie. Usually in other movies most of the songs are sung by the princess. The music in Disney princess movies has changed so much and I really like how it’s changing. Personally my favorite song is Shiny by Tamatoa. That song is sung by one of the villains, and it’s so funny, but intimidating at the same time.

Moana is a 5 out of 5 stars. If you like the tropical life and like to be out on the sea I definitely would recommend this movie. Moana is a family movie and such a good laugh. I know you will have your “awww” moments, your “omg!” moments and warning, the songs will get stuck in your head.
