Families Gobble Down A Thanksgiving
Dec 12, 2017
For six years the WMS Thanksgiving Dinner was founded to bring people together. Every year including November 12, 2017 bought success and mouthwatering food to every table.
The WMS school cafeteria was transformed into a festive atmosphere, where teachers served students and their families steaming plates of food. Mayor John E. McCormac believes “it gives a chance for the community to meet each other in a social environment”. He also believes it’s important to have a “positive relationship” within the school and the students’ families. He would like students to know “you’re in a great school”.
Among the many attendants was Dr. Crowe. He takes part in the festive event and notices how the dinner “improves the overall culture” of the school’s community. The principal went on to explain that “so many people and staff members take part” in the dinner every year; the result fills many tables and stomachs with delicious food.
Mr. Murphy, who helped organize and run the dinner, saw how “it brings parents and students to see teachers in a different light…not just the person who yells at them in class”. He feels strongly that the dinner is a way to bring Thanksgiving to families who can’t supply the resources themselves.
Mrs. Steinberg co-origanized the event for the first time for the first time and couldn’t help but notice how, “it’s collective”. Not only do the families get closer, but “it’s a wonderful time of year for faculty to get together because we get to work together to do a good thing”. The dinner is always a good time to get together with old and new friends. Steinberg adds, “it shows the level of commitment the teachers have to their students”.
History and civics teacher, Mrs. Liastro, took notice of the convivial aura and stated, “It’s very festive and very inviting”. Decorations included paper pumpkins and turkey centerpieces on every table. Of course, the turnout was favorable; she believes it “would be great for the whole school to attend the dinner.” It’s a great time to be closer to family and friends.
The dinner’s goal of bringing people together was definitely a success; families were having a great time and Alyssa Gutierrez, a sixth grader, commented on how she saw ” a lot of family, friends…I see a lot of community.” The food always had a good reputation of flavorful quality. Jaden Hughes, sixth grader, heard about the delicious food and went to see if it had kept it’s promise. He was satisfied with the savory texture of food that lived up to his expectations. Though he maintains his opinion that the cranberry sauce was the best.
The laughter and jubilance at every table was self-evident for a successful dinner and many more to come.
