On May 18, 1980 at 8:32 am, Mount St Helens erupted in the state of Washington. The eruption was the largest volcanic event in US history. The blasts of volcanic ash moved at over 300 miles per hour, which caused it to destroy 240 square miles of forests along with about 1,300 feet of the mountain’s peek. 52 people tragically died in this eruption.
