The art elective at Woodbridge Middle School, lets children show their creative side and express what they feel. For the people who love to be artsy and be creative art is the best elective.
Mrs. Donewitz said, “Art has benefited me in many ways by providing a way for me to relax and decompress. I am really lucky to be able to enjoy what I do everyday,” which shows that art can help you feel better when stressed, sad, happy, bored, or any emotion you’re feeling. And that’s even better, to show your raw emotions helps you get more creative and make an art piece that means something for you and for the world.
Mrs. Donewitz explains how art has changed over time she says, “ I feel like the major differences between the art and artists of today compared to artists of Frida Kahlo’s time (1920’s -1950’s) would be technology, specifically the internet and social media. In the past, artists would have a very hard time getting their work noticed and put into galleries or museums. Gaining popularity in the art world was a huge struggle and did not happen for every artist. Now, in today’s world, every person can declare themselves as an “artist” and publicly show their artwork to the world instantly. Which is a positive thing, giving so many more artists the opportunity of making a career out of their talents. Social media also allows for so many more people to be inspired by what other artists do and create and we are not limited anymore by only seeing the artwork in galleries and museums.”
Mrs. Doneiwitz said, “Generally speaking, if someone smeared a bunch of paint on a canvas I would never want to put down anyone’s opinion of what is considered art. So if you created something that you were proud of I would appreciate your perspective on things and encourage your efforts. Speaking as a teacher, the projects I assign usually require more than smearing paint and encourage the students to really plan out their artwork.”
Angie Del Cid, a student at Woodbridge Middle School shared that Mrs.Donewitz is a “really good teacher and she explains things really well until we understand and I also like that she’s patient. She does a really good job.” Del Cid also mentioned that at first she was not interested in art, until her elementary school teacher showed Del Cid her creative side, and after that point forward she loves art.
Angie Del Cid explains how in art you can se your creativity to create great things. She said, “I like art because it’s very creative and I can use my creativity and design stuff.”
Art is all about having fun and using your imagination to design stuff. Art is also great to keep yourself busy. Art can be a very fun and engaging way to express your emotions, and it’s for all ages.
