Tri-M is getting ready for next school year at WMS. After a successful school year of volunteering and recruiting new members Tri-M is ready for another year of this.
With new members and more being inducted later there will be lots more volunteering and helping around the community.
As the whole group gets ready to start volunteering, new members are getting ready for elections. Available positions to run for include president, vice president, and secretary.
When getting the application to get into Tri-M it comes with two parts: An application and a signature packet. Giulianna De Jesus, a seventh grader and new member of Tri-M, said she did the application first because it was “simpler.” She recommends getting the signatures first for the future members of Tri-M.
Mrs. Maneri, the band teacher at WMS, said she looks for “strength and their work ethic” while reviewing the application.
When getting into Tri-M each member takes on responsibilities. Mrs. Maneri expects students to “be controlled in the school building.” Keeping up an honor roll status is also important.
De Jesus said “she handled it well” when it came to the responsibilities she took on.
The first meeting is very informative and explains what students have to do to stay in. NJHS focuses on volunteer hours while Tri-M has a certain amount of musical events you can volunteer at. Some examples of places you can volunteer at are high school and elementary school concerts.
Volunteering at the WMS Thanksgiving dinner was also an option.
Tri-M features seventh and eighth grade students just like the music program does. While most students know each other, the now eighth graders came up with the idea to host a breakfast to make the environment more comfortable for the new members.
Mrs. Maneri is “excited for what is coming.”
