The WMS Chorus has had a successful year, and will perform in their spring concert and go to a competition at the high school.
Aiden Delosangeles, a chorus member and a camarata performer, explained the upcoming events. He said, “We do have two upcoming events, the spring concert and the competition trip.”
Mr. McGuire, the chorus director at WMS, discussed what they do to prepare for the competition and what they plan to do. He said, “Competition is always fun because we get to spend the afternoon at Six Flags. We go to another school to compete and you get scored from a judge, and find out at the end. To prepare, there are lots of rehearsals we do.”
Delosangles mentioned that those who have chorus do so depending on their grade and camerata practices after school on Mondays to go over their songs.
Chorus members are excited about both the competition and for the spring concert. Paris Sterling, an 8th grader said she is “happy” to be a part of the chorus and expressed she is excited because it’s “so much fun.”
WMS chorus members have favorite aspects of being in the group. Delosangles stated, “My favorite part is singing with my friends and I could talk to them when I’m practicing with them.” Paris Sterling said that she just enjoys singing.
Also, Alicia Lopez, a 7th grader in chorus added that she likes to sing and she enjoys the trips they go on.
Mr. McGuire shared his favorite aspect as well. He stated, “Probably putting a concert together and picking songs that have common themes and getting to use them to help tell a story.”
Students join the chorus for various reasons. Some join to make friends, or maybe their love of music. Lopez said her reason for joining is that her friends told her about the chorus so she joined. She also discussed how the chorus benefits her. Lopez said, “It helps me practice singing more.”
Even with all their success, Mr. McGuire never thought he would be in this position as a music teacher at WMS. He wanted to be a freelancer and tour but then realized that he hated being away from his family.
Now, as a teacher, he enjoys sharing his love for music with students. Mr. McGuire stated, “So being a music teacher is great, I get to share something I’m passionate about and I get to be close to my loved ones and do something I’m passionate about.”
