Mr.Vasquez, the teacher of theater arts, joined WMS this year. He explained his background and why he chose to be a theater arts teacher.
Mr.Vasquez explained why he chose to teach theater arts. Mr.Vasquez said, “When I was in high school I didn’t know what to do. I was in sports but then I got injured. I had to find something else. That’s when I found theater arts and I fell in love with it. It made me think that a lot of students aren’t exposed to theater and that is what made me want to be a theater arts teacher to help and inspire students to act and make them not feel embarrassed and feel judged so students can be free and be themselves.”
When he started to teach theater arts he knew that it was his calling. Mr.Vasquez said, “I choose to be a theater arts teacher in my senior year of high school in the beginning it took me a long time to get here because I went of track but about 10 years it was always in the back of my mind that this is what I want to do I want to become a theater arts teacher.”
The people that inspired him to work as a theater arts teacher are important to Mr.Vasquez. He explained, “Many people I had two threat teachers in my high school they would just willing and caring to help every student who enter wither if it was the acting side or the tec side I had nothing to do and they put me in and they made every student feel individual important to what was going on in our threat show and that is also my overall goal as well to make sure very kid feels important they have a chance to shine wither is on stage or behind stage and that what I would like to do same thing they did.”
Mr.Vasquez’s explained what his favorite part of WMS is, “Honestly, I would have to say my co-works they have been a great help to me on making my transition from my old school to here they are welcoming, supporting, also there for each other and I would like to be there for them.”
He also explained what his favorite part is, “Favorite part about drama club is seeing kids grow and improve on and favorite skit so far has to be from a student that played the ukulele its very lovely that’s one of my favorite.”
”Simply be yourself, have no fear of judgment, you’re only here once, be yourself, be happy and know everything else,” said Mr.Vasquez.
Students enjoy theater arts. For example, Jadiel Torres an 8th grader said, “Someone that inspired me to take this class was my dad. He used to act in his school when he was younger.”
In this class students can make friends and work in groups. Aiden de los Angeles is an 8th grader and this is what he said about this class, “The thing that I like about this class is that i have friends in this class and is not just me so I don’t have to do it all by myself and i like that we get to work together and get into groups and I love how we can all do our own stories and we get to act it out.”
Also in this class students and others can express themselves by making skits. This is one of the skits Aiden de los Angeles created recently, “Recently, me and my friend Victoria Tuju made a skit called the horror monologue and is just me and her enter a horror house or a haunted house two people help on it,it was really fun it was like a horror but at the end it became a comedie because I slept on water I had no idea it was even there but thankfully it didn’t hurt.”
