The Basketball season has long been over, but some still have some questions about the season. Luckily, Mrs. Kaschak has the answers.
Mrs. Kaschak is the Girl’s basketball coach. However, this isn’t her first year coaching. She says, “I coached for many years, 6. The team I originally coached went undefeated and we went to the championship.”
Kaschak said she believes that middle school is a difficult time determining whether somebody is worthy of a scholarship, saying, “MS is an unusual time for basketball. Like I’ve said, I coached for 30 years so I’ve seen many different players over many years and MS is a hard time because of all of the hormones coming into play, so it’s hard to tell.”
“I’ve watched some of my girls make it to high school, and some of them even get scholarships. I don’t know if any of them would make it in the WNBA, but they do play in college,” she said.
Laila Shakoor, an 8th grade player on the team, said that it wasn’t difficult to adapt to a new team since she’s played a lot outside of school. Shakoor said, “It wasn’t difficult because I am experienced in playing basketball and I had to take leadership.”
Shakoor explains how it was easy to bond with her teammates, saying that, “I bonded with my teammates, I believe that basketball made us trust each other more.” She also said that she’d rather stay with the same team and help them improve, “I would stay on the team and help everyone gain new sets of skills because work is important.’
An 8th Grade Basketball Player echoed Shakoor’s sentiment, saying, “It was pretty easy because I got to work very well with my teammates and we got to go through the season quickly and efficiently. My teammates were amazing, they worked hard, and they made sure they did their best.”
The player explained how tryouts were a bit nerve wracking, “I was…excited and nervous for the result. I knew a lot of girls wouldn’t try out this year, but I was excited that I got a new start in the season.”
