Mr. Malmstrom is hosting WMS Journalism Club again for the 24/25 school year in room 307.
Mr. Malmstrom, the journalism teacher and advisor of the club said, “Room 307 in Mr. Malmstrom’s room, my room, and after school on Wednesdays. We usually meet on the first two Wednesdays of the month. Our next meeting is October 16 and then we are meeting again on November 13.”
This club will begin with some group activities. Malmstrom said, “On the first day we do ‘Get to know you bingo’ for candy and then every so often, we play ‘Guess the Character’ which is a really fun game. You get to be in there with people from other grades which is really neat.”
Mr Malmstrom loves the activities the students do. Malmstrom said, “We create comics and short sections on the newspaper. We had a student write an article last year about the effects of cyberbullying on Roblox and then we had some people make friends that they are still with. So really it’s whatever you want to do, the only limit is your imagination.”
Tanisi Mistry, a 7th grader at WMS who also talked about the club said, “Yeah, I would recommend it to my friends because It’s really fun to hang out with them and doing articles with them.”
Mr Malmstrom said that he loves the “creativity of [his] students.” It makes him happy to see kids hang out after school and do something fun. Malmstrom also said that he likes getting to interact with people and know them more on a “deeper level.”
Mistry was very eager to talk to people in the club. Mistry said, “It helped me get better at talking to people more openly and not be so quiet to myself.”
To those who want to be in the club but were never in the class, Malmstrom said, “Nope, you could join even if you’re not in journalism but if you are in journalism class then you will be an author or an editor. But, if you never been in the class, you are a contributor and I have to publish the stuff for you.”
Mistry, a devoted person to the club explained what is important for the club, “I think the most important thing to remember is to be kind to everyone and try your hardest.”
