The 23/24 chorus season is underway. The concert took place in December and chorus members shared their talents.
Aiden Delosangeles, a 7th grade chorus student, explained that the chorus has been valuable for him. He said, “It’s impacted my life in different ways. This is a great club for me to be in to express myself. I loved singing so much as a kid. It helps me show myself in different ways.”
Delosangeles continued to discuss how the chorus led to him making more friends saying, ““Most of them I’ve known for a while and I have good relationships with them. And they helped me on my journey to be more expressive.”
A large reason for his success is the chorus teacher, Mr. McGuire. Delosangeles said, “Mr. McGuire is a pretty great teacher because he lets you push yourself, but he doesn’t push you too far. “
Delosangeles explained how he felt before the concert, ”At the winter concert I was definitely nervous. When we finally sang I felt good about the concert and did better.”
The concert went great, Mr. McGuire said, ’’I think the winter concert went really well. Especially considering how many kids came this year, over 75 kids… there were things that definitely could have gone better transitioning from chorus to band. I think the best song of the winter concert was ‘Zum Golly Golly.’’’
There were a lot of different types of songs. Mr. McGuire said, ‘’I always take a minute. There’s a website called JWPepper.com there’s a lot of great music on it. And I try to think about what goals I have first because the first thing I need to think about is what can I teach as a teacher through these songs.’’
There are always going to be a few problems, Mr. McGuire said, ‘’I wouldn’t change a thing, every kid wants to be there and I love that…obviously having more kids would be great… but not if it means kids don’t want to be there so I wouldn’t change a thing about that. Actually, one thing I would love to have a teacher aid.’’
Having a great role model is important, Mr. McGuire said, “I want my students to always remember me as a teacher that believed in them even on my worst days.”
