Mural club paints with talent

WMS’ first Mural Club led by Mr. Malmstrom and Mrs.Kemper is held in the cafeteria on Wednesdays after school. The club and its constituents are motivated to make the school walls more bright and colorful.
Noemi Grande is a seventh grade member of mural club who definitely recommends mural club because “it’s good to try new things, you don’t have to be the greatest.” She joined because she “doesn’t have much to do at home and likes drawing and painting.” She likes planning the project and being able to work with other people and wants to make the school a “nice and colorful environment.”
Dr. Crowe believes mural club is a “wonderful addition for the school” and is successful and exciting. He enjoys how “ the students are so engaged and are being taught visual arts.” He says the school is already looking better.
Adriana Valladares, a sixth grader in Mural Club, joined because she likes to paint and thinks it is fun. She likes when she gets to paint and is working on a “language arts themed” painting and thinks Mural Club will make the school look happier.
Mrs. Kemper believes Mr. Malmstrom had a great idea to create mural club and she wanted to make the walls more cheerful. Her favorite part of mural club is “to paint and get to know the students.”
Norah Pereira an eighth grader in mural club says, “I absolutely recommend it, it’s a way to be creative without limits.” She says she mostly likes, “hanging out with friends, making the school more beautiful.”
Mr. Malmstrom decided to create Mural Club because “[he] wanted to start a club four or five years ago to make the school look better, but because [he] feels that [he] lacks artistic ability [he] is thrilled that Mrs. Kemper took the reigns.” He says so far he enjoys how well the club has been doing and how engaged the students are. He also likes how “there is a group of students and teachers coming together for a common good.” So far he thinks the students are really into it and “as long as there are walls to paint, Mural Club will continue.”
