1973- Foreman Beats Frazier

George “Big George” Foreman at 6’3″ and 217 1/2 pounds (four inches taller and 3 1/2 pounds heavier than Joe “Smokin’ Joe” Frazier) was an Olympic Gold-Medalist with 37 victories- with this 38th coming in just four minutes and 35 seconds. Foreman beat the former heavyweight champion with uppercuts and knocking him to the mat 6 times in to rounds.

But it wasn’t until Foreman’s last hit, an uppercut that lifted Frazier’s body into the air for and instant, did he become the next heavyweight champion. At 1:35 into the seconds round, the referee declared George Foreman the winner on a technical knock-out (TKO).

Foreman went on to challenge Muhammad Ali in the “Rumble in the Jungle” The next summer. Ali ended up winning late in the 8th round becoming, once again, the world heavyweight crown and, in return, giving George Foreman his first loss of his professional career.
