In 2018, Sony released their Spider-man: Into the Spider-Verse Starring Shameik Moore voicing Miles Morales, an Afro-Latino variant of Spider-man, and clocking in 4.5 stars out of 5 on the famous website site Rotten Tomatoes, known for rating movies. Now Sony has a new movie with a release date of June 2nd, 2023. 

Sony´s new movie Spider-man: Across the Spider-Verse follows our main character Miles Morales about 2 years after the events of the first movie’s events. Miles is greeted by another Spider-man variant, Gwen Stacy, known as Spider-Gwen. Gwen was first shown in Spider-man: Into the Spider-Verse meeting miles after running into him and another Spider-man variant, Peter B. Parker. Fast forward to the new movie Spider-man: Across the Spider-Verse, Gwen takes Miles to a ¨Spider Society¨ with hundreds of different variants of Spider-man.

There will also be a new villain introduced in the movie, The Spot. The Spot is a villain with spot-like portals covered all over his body and seems to be fighting Miles Morales in the trailers. 

The plot of the movie is all of the Spider-men chasing down Miles Morales for something which we, the audience, don’t know about. One of the main characters chasing down Miles is Miguel O´Hara, also known as Spider-man 2099, voiced by Oscar Isaac.

Miles is seen struggling with not only running away from millions of different Spider-men chasing him down such as Spider-punk, Spider-cat, Jessica Jones Spider-woman, Miguel O´Hara a.k.a Spider-man 2099, but also dealing with missing high school more, and fighting with his parents 

But fans of Spider-man: Into the Spider-Verse and superhero movies are hyped up for the release of Spider-man: Across the Spider-Verse. Some of those fans include some of our students here at WMS, including me.

I am super hyped because it shows Miles being pressured into making decisions, showing that sometimes you can’t save everyone, including yourself.

The Trailers Released for the movie also show the different Spider-man throughout the Spider Society, My favorite being Spider-Cat. This movie also shows Miles has improved since his last movie.

There also have been fan theories about what Miles Morales did to anger all of the Spider Society. Some fans say he wasn’t supposed to become Spider-man. This is because when Miles was bitten by the spider in the first movie, it seemed to be glitching, which led fans to believe that this spider was in the wrong universe and was not supposed to be in Miles’s universe.

Some other people believe that Miles ¨saved¨ The Spot in some sort of way and now the Spider-people are angry at Miles for saving a villain. Some of our Students here at WMS have their theories as to what Miles did to anger the Spider-people. ¨

8th Grader and former baseball player Mikey Reyes said, ¨I think everybody is mad at him and chasing him because he messed around with different Spider-man and got involved with stuff he shouldn’t have and was in a different universe he shouldn’t have been in.¨ 

8th Grader Jahlil Taylor said, ¨I think because he thought about his dead uncle and said something that made the Spider-people mad.¨

There are so many things to look at in the trailers alone, I am excited to see the movie and why everyone is mad at Miles.
