Diego Rolon & Julia Chepel pose for award

Woodbridge Middle School has a monthly event to show appreciation for hard-working students that have a positive impact on the school. As November comes to an end, students are on their best behavior. But in the end, 8th graders Diego Rolon and Julia Chepel were awarded.

Rolon was very nervous about winning. He feels as if he has to be an even better student now that he has won, and he responded, “Of course, there’s a pressure on me because I have all these eyes on me along with Julia in which we now have to set the example to the other students and represent the school in a positive light.” Rolon was also said he was was not treated differently by his peers “No, everyone’s been the same to me since 6th grade and I’d like to keep it that way, in the end you always have to treat others the way you want to be treated.” Lastly, Rolon explained his reaction to winning, “To be honest, I didn’t know I won, Julia had to tell me. And I asked plenty of times if there was a mistake and if there could be a recount.”

Chepel enjoyed every moment of her win.  She commented, “I think staying true to myself has a huge thing to do with me winning, “Don’t change the way you act to win,but also coming to school everyday at 7:30 helping for student council plays a role in my winning.” Chepel was also asked about what extra-curricular activities she participated in and outside of school. Chepel whom was very enthusiastic when she responded, “I go to Student Council, NJHS, Chorus, Book Club, Woodbridge Middle School’s Cheer Team, and I dance at Woodbridge School of Dance.  I am very busy at times, but I enjoy every last one of these activities.”  Lastly, Chepel provided some advice for students that want to win the award, “Join a ton of clubs the school has to offer, and volunteer as much as possible. Working hard in you classes also makes a huge difference.”
