Thriving Teachers of October

Thriving+Teachers+of+October

Starting the new school year at Woodbridge Middle School there is a new award every month called “Teacher of the Month” to show appreciation for the hard-working teachers at WMS.

In order for teachers to win, students must go on the school’s website and vote for the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade teachers of their choice. The three teachers that won in October were Mrs.Haybk, a 6th grade Language arts teacher. Mr. Wilson, a strings teacher who teaches every grade, and Mr.Malmstrom, a 7th grade language arts teacher.

Wilson seemed to be quite humbled by the award. When asked if he thought he would win the award and he said “ No, I honestly wasn’t very confident I would win. I was very surprised because there are many great teachers that Woodbridge Middle School has to offer.”  Wilson said that he was treated somewhat differently as a result of the award, “Yes! I have more people coming up to me and speaking, and it’s very fun that I can meet so many new kids.”

Haybk seemed very enthusiastic to win this award. When asked “How did it feel to win”, Haybk replied “ It was a motivating experience.  I know how hectic 6th grade can be, so I try my best to work with the students.” Also, when asked “What advice would you give next month’s teachers” Habyk replied “Enjoy! , let everything manifest in your head because it’s a very shocking moment in a teacher’s career. Be extremely proud of yourself !”

We caught up with Malmstrom to see what he thought he did to make Woodbridge Middle School’s “Teacher of the Month” and he stated “I tried to make all my classes engaging so all my students would be entertained while learning at the same time, so I think that most definitely played a part.” Then, when asked “What did you like best about the experience?” Malmstrom responded, “The teacher of the month award was awesome, it shows the appreciation the school has for the hardworking teachers.  WMS has so many hardworking teachers that deserve to be recognized and I feel honored to be a part of the process.”
