Oct 27, 2021
The Hunger Games is a dystopian novel written by Suzanne Collins about Katniss Everdeen, the protagonist, and how the games changed her life.
The Hunger Games portrays a country named Panem and the twelve outlying districts. Katniss Everdeen lives in district twelve, and is faced with the Hunger Games. The Hunger Games, is a fight to the death with two tributes from each district acting as a punishment for an uprising against the Capitol, 75 years ago. Katniss Everdeen was challenged with survival and her future, but also with the survival of her feigned love interest.
The two books following the Hunger Games are Catching Fire and The Mockingjay making it a trilogy. The three books were soon made into movies, The Hunger Games movie came out in 2012. Catching Fire was released in 2013, The MockingJay was split into two parts, releasing in 2014 and 2015.
Josh Hutcherson who played Peeta Mellark said, “ Peeta was an amazing character, I fell in love with him right away and he’s very much like myself.” When I read the Hunger Games I couldn’t put it down, I was reading and reading and wanted to find out what happened next.”
Liam Hemsworth who played Gale Hawthorne said, “ Gale’s a strong minded person and really hates the Capitol, Gale and Katniss were basically each other’s support system and she’s a really good actress.”
Jennifer Lawrence who played Katniss Everdeen referred to her co-star and said, “Josh Hutcherson plays Peeta and it could not be a better match, his character could probably charm the world. He’s also one of the funniest people I’ve ever met.” She then explained how she’s a huge fan of the book, and how the story came to life on set.
I really enjoyed reading this book, and couldn’t stop thinking about it at times. I read the first two books in a couple of weeks because I couldn’t put it down. My favorite character so far is Peeta, and would recommend this book to read. I look forward to watching the movies and reading further.
Mika Golden who has read all three books said, “Haymitch was my favorite character. My favorite scene was when Katniss volunteered and saved Prim at the reaping, it reminded me of my little sister and I.”
Brianna Trenery who has read the first book stated, “If I could talk to Suzanne Collins I would ask her how she came up with Katniss’ character, and I would recommend this book for others to read.”
Alex Grabon who has read all three books said, “My favorite character was Katniss, and out of all the books I liked The Mockingjay the best. My favorite scene from The Hunger Games was when Katniss and Peeta were about to swallow the berries.”
The Hunger Games is rated PG-13, and the movie starts off reminding viewers that it’s for appropriate audiences. The Hunger Games has a 4.6 star rating out of 5, and the genre is science fiction. I recommend this book for readers who love action, thrill and romance.
