Teachers bring the sparkle and pom-poms to WMS
WMS is always trying new activities to get more students involved. This year, Mrs.Duffy introduced the idea of cheerleading to WMS and Mrs. Liastro wanted to embark on the journey with Mrs. Duffy.
Mrs.Liastro stated, “I was six or seven when I started cheering and I regret not doing cheerleading in college.” Mrs.Duffy said, “I cheered too long ago to remember.”
The WMS cheerleading coaches feel they are fit for the job because they both cheered when they were younger and have experience.
Mrs.Duffy and Mrs.Liastro were so excited to start the cheerleading team. Apparently, they “fought for the team to be made.”
This reporter can’t wait until they start in December. WMS students and faculty members await a great opportunity to spread school spirit. Mrs. Liastro said, “Practices are after school and are collaborative efforts. The girls help make up the cheers, and are very involved.” Mrs. Liastro models the cheers and Mrs. Duffy is the planner and organizer.
Mrs.Duffy and Mrs.Liastro described how they will promote positivity, they said, “positives times can remain positive by creating a good environment, and if the team loses there can be negative energy.” The coaches commented that it is the job of the cheerleaders to remain positive. Mrs.Liastro and Mrs.Duffy are ecstatic about the opportunity. They said, “this has never been done in the school before!”
Come out and see the WMS cheerleading team at the home basketball games for the boys and girls. Go Warriors!
