This Day in History – December 6
Dec 6, 2019
On December 6th, 1865, the 13th amendment was ratified, abolishing slavery. It states, “Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.” This means that the only time someone should be locked away is for a crime that they committed.
