Many have criticized Nintendo for decades, saying that they practically make the same games over and over with slight changes, but all of this changed with the release of Splatoon a few years ago. Could a sequel be even more game-changing, or will it just be more of the same.

Splatoon 2 has three modes, Turf War, Salmon Run, and the story mode, Octo Canyon. Each mode is satisfyingly different. Turf Wars involve getting as much ink of your color on the ground as possible, Salmon Run is all about getting eggs for a grizzly bear from monsters called The Salmonoids, and Octo Canyon has the dastardly DJ Octavio stealing The Great Zapfish which forces you to defeat other monsters and solve challenging puzzles.

The artstyle of the game is reminiscent of older nicktoons like Rocko’s Modern Life or Spongebob Squarepants. Everything in the game has something to it that makes it look better than most other games, whether it be the warbly shine of the ink or the fluid movements of monsters.

The writing of the game, although not very story-heavy, has a lot of interesting lore when you look into it. It’s set in a future where the ocean kept on rising and humans and squids evolved into basically the same creature. From there they warred with the Octolings and The Salmonoids before establishing their city, Inkopolis.

There’s a lot of humor in the game that pretty much exclusively comes from puns, which I absolutely adore.I would consider myself a pun a-fish-ianado, so I really mean it if I say these puns are ink-redible. If you think you have better puns, Whale think again! Seriously, some of these puns are really Kraken me up. If you find better puns, let Minnow. Are these enough puns, maybe I should Scale back. These puns make my brain feel like I’m having Tentacle Difficulties. I should try and clam down. I’m sorry, those puns weren’t on Porpoise. I’m really on Fin Ice. I feel r-Eel-y Gill-ty.

I think Splatoon 2 is a great game that will continue getting greater because every few weeks they release new things to the game like new stages, new guns, new costumes, and even a whole new story mode called Octo Expansion.
