On December 11, 1913 The Mona Lisa was finally recovered after being stolen for to years.

Vincenzo Peruggia is the person who is believed to have stolen The Mona Lisa on August 21, 1911. It was discovered in Peruggia’s hotel room somewhere in Paris,m France. Peruggia stole the painting because he believed that Napoleon had stolen it from Italy, and it actually belonged in Italy. So he stole it. Peruggia was in prison for 14 months before being released.
