LOVE IS LOVE: Simon’s emails to Blue.

Amanda Del Monte, Spring Author

Everyone deserves a great love story, but for 17-year-old Simon Spier, it’s a little more complicated.

The movie came into theaters March 16, 2018 and made around $11.5 million dollars in sales. Love, Simon is a 2018 American romantic, comedy-drama film directed by Greg Berlanti written by Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, and based on the novel Simon vs. the Homo-Sapiens Agenda. The rating is PG-13  and is about 1h 50min; the Movie is about a boy named Simon Spier who is extremely close with his Mom and Dad, his younger sister, also his three best friends Nick and Leah whom he’s know forever and Abby who moved to the town in the beginning of the school year. But he keeps a huge secret from everyone; he’s gay.

In the movie, Simon is looking on the school website and sees a quote that a kid known as Blue posted, “Sometimes I feel like a ferris wheel, one minute I’m top of the world then the next minute I’m rock bottom.” Blue leaves his email address on the top of the post and Simon starts to email him and they soon email back and forth. Simon went by Jacques at the email signature, not his real name. Neither Bule or Simon knew who each other were. Soon Simon falls in love with Blue, and accidently says ‘Love, Jacques’ instead of ‘From, Jacques’.

Simon accidently leaves his email open on the school’s library computer. Simon’s friend/enemy Martian, reads through his emails and finds out Simon is gay. Martin later threatens to post Simon’s emails online after copying the emails if he doesn’t get Martian and Abby together. Getting Addy and Martian together is harder then Simon thought. Turns out that Nicks likes Addy and wants to ask her out. But Simon lies and tells Nick that Leah likes him and he should ask her to go to dinner with him.

During a football game Martin takes a microphone and in front of the whole school asks Abby out. She rejects him. With no hesitation Martin post all of Simon’s emails online.

Love Simon is one of the best movies I’ve ever seen. The movie brought tears to my eyes. It was so funny, sad and so cute. I definitely recommend seeing the movie. It’s a lovable movie. I would see it a second or even third time. I’m not shocked about the amount of money the movie made.
