If you aren’t saying these songs are ‘In My Blood’ then ‘you got plans tonight’

Shawn Mendes, a talented 19 year old Canadian songwriter/singer, has released two new singles for his upcoming third album on March 22nd and 23rd.
In My Blood is a song about the Canadian dealing with anxiety for the first time, which was “sometime last year”. This song is relatable to many teenagers that go through anxiety and feel like they are alone. Mendes thoroughly sings in the song that they are not and he has been through it as well.
“Growing up, I was a pretty calm kid, I knew people who suffered from anxiety, but found it kind of hard to understand. Then when it hits you, you’re like, ‘Oh my god, this is crazy,’” Canadian says in a quote taken from Genius about his experience with anxiety.
Mendes already had in mind what type of vibe he wanted to with the song since the beginning, “when we walked in, I was like, ‘I want to make a Kings of Leon record. I want to go more rock.’” As he wrote his songs for his third album he only had one rule in mind, “‘The only way things are going to get better from the last album is if we get more honest.’”
“The concept of this song is about how it feels when you’re about to give up, and then you don’t.” Mendes says about his chorus lyrics inside his song. He feels as if people do not talk often about something mostly everyone goes through, especially in music. But even though he has a rough time going through his anxiety stage he reminds his fans not to worry and every time he performs the song he reminds everyone he is okay.
He states that this song is that most “vulnerable” one that will be on his upcoming album SM3 (the title Mendes’ fans call his third album). The main reason why he wrote this song, “Was to be like at the very end, ‘It’s not in my blood to do that.’” To listen to the now brand new hit on the radio click the link below.

Lost In Japan was the 19 year old’s second single released also from his upcoming third album. This song was only released 24 hours after In My Blood! For a little while both of these songs took up 1st and 2nd place on iTunes with IMB taking first and LIJ taking second.
Lost In Japan (LIJ) is a song that Mendes states, “ I had this dream that I was lost in this country.” “I woke up the next day and we had this cool piano part, and the song was birthed. It was really fast.” This song only took 40 to 50 minutes to complete!
“I’m very proud of this song. As a musician, I’m probably most proud of this song of all of them.” “The song was me being extremely creative and out there and just kind of going for it.” The young Canadian comments on how he truly feels about his second single on SM3.
“Writing is more so just talking, venting about life to a bunch of people you trust and then together being like, ‘Ok that’s it. Grab that thought.’” Mendes says about he feels about him writing his music according to Genius.
Shawn Mendes’s two brand new singles contrast extremely as IMB is a soft rock song and LIJ is a R&B song. “A perfect explanation as to why the music is so all over the place is ‘cause that’s how I was consuming music,” fellow Canadian explains with some confusion the listener may be going through.
