The false tweet about the Spongebob ending
Apr 17, 2018
SPONGEBOB IS ENDING? The rumor that has been going around since the middle of February is that Spongebob will no longer be airing on March 1st.
Is it true? The tweet that Spongebob creators stated, “unfortunately, our show will be coming to a final end, as of March 1st. It’s been a long ride, and we are very grateful for the fans worldwide that have shown support throughout the years, none if this would have been possible without you.”
The tweet is, in fact, false. The Entertainment Weekly reported that “Nickelodeon ordered 26 more episodes of the show, renewing it through 2019.” So that means that after the 26 episodes, then they will “officially” end Spongebob.
Some people from WMS had input about the supposed Spongebob “ending”. 6th graders Sharisbel Thomas and Daniel Foley explained their thoughts of the show. Thomas commented, “I heard that Spongebob was ending in school and I was ranting to people that it was my childhood.”
Foley said, “my father showed me, but I wasn’t that sad when I found out.” Thomas said she’s been watching Spongebob since she was 4 or 5. Foley said he’s been watching since he was 3 because he had a “Spongebob party”.
Thomas had some comments about if spongebob should keep airing or not. She explained, “I do think that it should because it has a lot of humor and it tells a story that no one will understand.” Foley explained after that “yes it should because a lot of people, I think, would be sad if it stopped.”
Jade Allan and Stephanie Beresfore also had some opinions and reactions. Allan said she was “so mad because I’ve basically been watching it since I was 4, my brother and I love the show”.
Beresfore said “I’ve probably been watching Spongebob since I was, like, 1, I need it to keep airing because it’s my childhood. If it didn’t keep airing I don’t know what I would do.”
Throughout the weeks Spongebob has been tweeting and posting daily about Squidward and Sandy and what all the characters have been “up too”.
As a result the tweet is in fact false and the show will be airing into 2019.
