WMS Family Book Club returns to WMS. At 5:00 every other month, Family Book Club meets in the library to discuss the book they read and vote on the next book.

Mr.Malmstrom and Ms.McDonald, co-advisors of book club, welcomed everyone including a former teacher at Woodbridge Middle Mrs.VanKleef to their first meeting of book club. Mrs. VanKleef came back to WMS just for book club. She stated, “I can’t stay away.”

RIVETING QUESTIONS: These are the questions each table had

Every table received several slips of questions about the book Hero and the meeting began. Everyone conversed about the questions and ate snacks, Mrs.Burke even came to enjoy book club with her son.

After everyone discussed the book, Mr.Malmstrom, with his dog tie on, explained that he called Woodbridge Animal Group (WAG). WAG helps rescue dogs and isn’t a kill shelter unless the animal is in pain. To raise awareness, book club made posters and students volunteered to speak on the loudspeaker to try to get kids to donate supplies WAG needs.

The last thing book club did was vote on the next book. The choices were Survivors Club or What to Say Next, What to Say Next won the applause meter. The next meeting will be held in the library on January 11th.

Book club originally started in 2013 with Mrs.Nemeth and Mr.Malmstrom as co-advisors. Two years later Ms. McDonald joined book club as co-advisor with Mr.Malmstrom.

“Book club is a good way to get more parents involved” says Mr. Malmstrom. Not only does book club get more parents to interact with their children it also gets students to get out of their comfort zone. Emma Hodgins said “I’m a fairly introverted person so it helps me push my limits and meet other people.”
