Being in middle school opens you up to new ways to express yourself. A common way of doing that is by getting piercings. We are here to tell you more about ear piercings.

History of ear piercings:

The first ear piercings were found on a mummy. They were known to be worn by the Sumerians and Mesopotamians. The earring’s back then was used as a status symbol.

Different styles/positions:

 Lobe piercings, these piercings are one of the most common ear piercings. They are located at the bottom of the ear. Industrial piercing this is located on the outer edge of the ear, going through the front, closer to the face, to the outside of the ear. Helix piercing, which is located on the upper outer cartilage, follows the rim of the ear. Tragus piercing, A tragus is located on the small, triangular piece of cartilage that partially covers the ear canal. There are many more piercings, but these are some examples.

Different types of jewelry: 

There are many types of jewelry. The most common types are studs. You can also wear hoop earrings, barbells, and captive bead rings. Usually, when you go and get your ears pierced, they get pierced with stud jewelry. 

It’s not so bad: 

Many parents may not approve of ear piercings. It may take some convincing.  Khloe, an eighth grader at WMS, said, “I just asked my parents and they said okay.” Sometimes it may be that easy, but other times it may be harder. 

You can convince your parents by telling them that it is for a cute look and will promise to take care of the piercing. From our experience, it didn’t take much convincing for our parents to say yes.

What WMS thinks about earrings: 

Mrs. Douglas, an English teacher here at WMS, “I have always found different ear piercings to be fascinating, and I love jewelry, so it was like another opportunity to get pretty sparkles in my ears.” 

Cameron, an eighth grader at WMS said she wanted piercings because “ I feel like they just look nice, and I wanted to get them pierced.”
