The following is a full transcript of the interview given by MRS.DOUGLAS to The Warrior Messenger’s TEALA CAVERLY about cheer tryouts
(The Warrior Messenger) TEALA CAVERLY, HOST: how many people tried out for the WMS cheer team?
MRS.DOUGLAS (Cheer coach of WMS) : We had 43 people try out this year
TC:Thank you, and what events will the cheerleaders be performing at this year ?
MD:We are super excited this year because we have the basketball team we will cheer for both the boys and the girls. We also like to perform in front of the whole school at a winter assembly or a spring assembly. And oftentimes we are very lucky to get invited by Mrs Washington for black history month or Mr. McGuire for multi-cultural.
TC:What is your favorite part about coaching the cheerleaders?
MD:Getting to know the students. I only teach 8th graders so it’s fun to get to. know the 7th graders.
TC :Why did you decide to coach the cheer leaders?
MD: I cheered my whole life from the time I was 5 all the way through high school and it was some of the best times I had I made a lot of really great friends my coaches were amazing. So when I came to WMS and saw Mrs Liastro needed some help we quickly became fast friends. Helping her coach has been one of the best experiences .
TC: What is the most difficult part about picking who made the team?
MD:Everyone is so talented and it’s so difficult because I am a bleeding heart to make anyone upset just makes me feel so terrible. We only have a limited amount of space and a limited amount of uniforms and I wish I could take everyone so that’s the most difficult part.
TC: Thank you and is there anything else you would like to add?
MD: So I know its difficult to not make the team but to any 7th graders who tried out and didn’t make it I really encourage you to come back to try out next year. And to any 8th graders try out for highschool because I would really like to come watch you cheer on football at Woodbridge High.
TC: Thank you for your time.
