The following is a full transcript of the interview given by Mrs. Carelli to The Warrior Messenger’s Ana Martinez about Dance company.
(The Warrior Messenger) ANA MARTINEZ, HOST: Hi, my name is Ana from the Warrior Messenger, and what are you looking for in Dance Company?
MRS. CARELLI(Dance Company Advisor): I’m looking for students who genuinely want to dance, and wanna learn how to dance, who would like to perform, and who would like to show up.
AM: Okay, but is it about having fun or winning?
MC: It’s never about winning, I judge dance competitions and I teach dance, and my goal for dance company is so it doesn’t look like that. It’s about people coming together to dance, to learn how to dance, to perform, and to enjoy.
AM: When does Dance Company dance company start?
MC : Dance Company started at the beginning of this past month, and it runs until May, which is a collection of 6th and 7th graders that meet on Thursdays. And then theres dance ensemble, which is a group of 7th and 8th graders that meet on Fridays.
AM: What does Dance Company mean to you?
MC:Dance Company to me means community, it means joy, love of dance, genuine respect, not for others but for the arts.
AM: Would you make your Dance Company compete with other schools?
MC: That’s never really been on my mind, but other schools have their own Dance Companies. Our hope as middle school teachers is to create a community of middle schoolers who genuine love to dance, and want to continue dancing until high school.
AM : Okay, and is there anything else you would like to add?
MC: No.
AM: Okay, have a nice day and thank you for your time.
