The following is a full transcript of the interview given by Mr.McGuire to The Warrior Messenger’s Ciara James about vocal music.
(The Warrior Messenger) Ciara, HOST: Can you please spell your first and last name for me
MR.MCGUIRE (Vocal Music Teacher): My first name is devin d-e-v-i-n but please address me as Mr.McGuire Mr-m-c- capital g- u-i-r-e
CJ: How did you start doing vocal music?
DM: I had a high school choir teacher who was wonderful to me, her name was Barbra bresko we still stayed in touch to this day, i had a really great experience being in my high school, vocal music classes didn’t just make me love singing it also actually made me try harder in sports and other classes to, cause I had a community of friends that I loved singing with and a great teacher who inspired me a better version of myself, so i went to collage after that to study this.
CJ: When did you start doing vocal music?
DM: I was hired in 2017 so this is my 9th year.
CJ: What is the best part of teaching vocal music?
DM: Getting to unlock student talents, what I mean by that is taking a student who might not realize they have a talent and helping them find that talent and feel more confident in their ability to do something, especially singing, but also anything where you have to get up in front of an audience.
CJ: How do you think students improved in vocal music over the years?
DM: The students have improved in a lot of different ways from their phrasing, which is collecting notes, to being able to do new genres in music and not just doing the same thing but being open to new things and that came from where we built a solid foundation all of my 8th graders service leaders in the program and they helped enter the 7th and 6th graders year after year
CJ: Is there anything else you would like to add?
DM: No, but thank you for taking your time to interview me.
CJ: May I take your picture?
DM: Yes! Go for it.
