For most people, sports are everyday things. Soccer, Basketball, Baseball, Volleyball, Softball, Football, Simming, Wrestling, and many more sports are played by many people. Inside of school or outside of school. WMS also has sports teams including 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. Now, you get to find out the favorite sports of 7th graders at WMS.
We (Zayd Moro, Steven Apollo, and Zahir Miranda Flores) interviewed 10 7th graders at WMS on what their favorite sport is and why and what lesson the sport teaches. Throughout, Braylen Sandklev, Blake Roe, Montrell Moody, Eli Hercules, Brandon Camacena, Bronson Linder, Ashley Magana, Daniel Crowley, Jacob Flores, and Andrew Ryes, Soccer was chosen the most.
In 3rd place we have Basketball which was chosen by Braylen Sanklev and Blake Roe. Sandklev said, “Basketball because I was born into liking it and I’m really good at it. Basketball teaches me teamwork.” Roe with a similar explanation said, “Basketball because I’m pretty good at it and it’s just fun. Basketball teaches me confidence, teamwork, and hardwork.” Even though Basketball is fun and can teach you lots of things, it isn’t the favorite sport of the 7th graders at WMS.
In 2nd place we have Football which was chosen by 7th graders Montrell Moody, Jacob Flores, and Daniel Crowley. Parts in the sport such as teamwork, hard hitting, and crazy plays were used to support their reasoning. Moody said, “Football because I like the dedication and teamwork you have to put in to be good and it’s overall a fun sport to play. It teaches me teamwork, how to be dedicated, and to provide hard work to get to where you need to be. I would also like to add my favorite player who is Malik Nabers and my favorite team is the Giants.” Moody’s response also shows how someone can easily be personally connected to a sport. The other 2 responses were similar from Crowley and Flores saying how they like the sport because of the hard hits and craziness. Each of these students stated how football teaches discipline and hardwork. Even though Football might be a good sport that can also teach a lot, it still isn’t the favorite sport of students at WMS
Now, onto the part that you (the reader) have been waiting for. The favorite sport of 7th graders at WMS. This sport was chosen by 5 people
In 1st place, chosen by 7th graders Ashley Magana, Bronson Linder, Andrew Ryes, Eli Hercules, and Brandon Camacena, Soccer! From being a Fun sport to play, Being a competitive sport, being able to run around, being stress relieving, and being a favorite hobby. Soccer was chosen as the favorite sport of 7th graders at WMS. These 5 students that chose soccer also stated how Soccer teaches hard work, having fun, being competitive, and being physical. Camacena said, “Soccer because it is a fun sport to play and I have always liked it. It teaches me hard work and having fun.” Linder said, “Soccer because I like running around a lot and I like to play it. Soccer teaches me confidence and hardwork. I would also like to add that I am tuff and I have a lot of money.” Hercules said, “Soccer because it is competitive and I like it. It teaches me to be competitive on the field and to be smart.”
The other 2 responses from Magana and Ryes had some more to add. For instance, Ryes stated how he found the sport to be fun and physical. He (Ryes) stated, “Soccer because I’m really good at it and it is my favorite hobby. It teaches me how to be physical and really good at playing soccer.” Finally, Magana not only listed 1 of her favorite sports, but another one of her favorite sports. Magana stated, “Soccer and Boxing because they’re stress relieving and they teach hard work and persistence.”
Sports might not be everyone’s thing, but for other people it can certainly be a hobby. It can be a main focus. It can even be a career that they might want to pursue. It can even be just a sport you like to watch and you don’t even have to play it.
