Batman is one of the most popular superheroes in the world. There have been multiple takes on the Caped Crusader, whether it’s the darkness of the Zynder verse or the realism of the Nolan trilogy. There have been multiple different takes on The Dark Knight, but which is the best?
Origin, this one is a no-brainer, every other director always started with Bruce Wayne being Batman, and having a few flashbacks to his backstory, except for Christopher Nolan, he was the only director to show the backstory of Batman and the creation of the character and he made feel like you earned to see batman when he finally showed up. He also showed how Batman trained, which I think is an amazing addition to the character, because we saw the creation of the rules that Bruce would follow as Batman
Villain, this one is tough because for me, a good villain breaks the main character’s will to live and makes them regret ever trying to contest them, and I think the best Matt Reeves Riddler because Bruce in this movie didn’t have anybody to be with other than Alfred, which the Ridler almost killed alfred and flooded Gotham.
Batmobile, I think a great Batmobile is just jam-packed with everything Batman needs, and I think the best example of that would be the Bat Tumbler in the Christopher Nolan films. For example, after chasing the Joker and Harvey Dent down and taking a rocket launcher shot, the Batmobile self-destructs, then transforms into a motorcycle for Batman to ride and catch up to the Joker.
Obsession with being Batman, I feel like this is the one thing that most directors don’t know what to do, so they just show Bruce saying that Bruce Wayne is the mask and not Batman, except for Matt Reeves, he showed a Bruce who didn’t even care to leave to be a billionaire or philanthropist and was so obsessed with being the Bat that he barley even took care of him self as Bruce Wayne for example one of the only times we see him as Bruce he doesnt talk to anyone or do anything until a car crashes into the church in the moment then he leaves to become Batman and as Batman he does more than he did as Bruce.
Bruce Wayne even though Bruce needs to think about being Batman more than he needs to be Bruce. There still needs to be a good Bruce to be a great Batman story, and I think the best was the Christopher Nolan trilogy. Bruce, because he showed the creation of Bruce’s persona and how important it was that he still made public appearances as Bruce, and he can’t always be Batman.
