At the end of the school year WMS staff and Mr. Panko are attending and hosting the 8th grade BBQ behind the school for the eighth grade promotion.
Mr. O’Halloran, the vice principal of WMS, explained where and when the BBQ will be, “It will be during a half day. It will be behind the school on the softball yard, but if it rains, everyone will be brought into the gym, but the grill will stay outside so the gym doesn’t fill with smoke.”
Mr. O’Halloran explained what food will be provided, “There will be hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, maybe cookies, and there will be a vegan option for people who don’t eat meat.”
Besides food, Mr. O’Halloran said he would also serve “crisp high-fives and congratulations.”
The 8th-grade BBQ is a long-standing tradition. High school gives a similar event for its seniors. So this is just a nice way to congratulate and let the students have a “chill day” before going off to high school, said O’Halloran
The BBQ is free for all of the 8th grade. Mr. O’Halloran said, “The BBQ is an opportunity that we’ll provide through fundraising efforts by the PTO and our student activities fund.”
Students also want to know how long the event will be. O’Halloran said, “The whole [event] is about four hours. After we get done with everything we need to get done that day, whatever practices we need for the promotion ceremony. We’ll be able to move outside for that.”
