Last Month, WMS celebrated Teacher Appreciation Week. The PTO had ice cream day for all the teachers, certain students also gave letters to their favorite teachers.
Teachers Appreciation Week recognizes and celebrates the contribution of teachers. It is celebrated to show appreciation for the teachers and fellow faculty members to help recognize what they do to help the schools in wonderful ways.
Mrs. McHale, a 6th-grade teacher at WMS, shared her love for teaching: “I enjoy teaching because I get to work with amazing young students who teach me just as much. It’s great to see them grow from 6th to 8th grade, and I love when they come back to visit.”
She said she has always wanted to be a teacher and remembers playing school with her sister when they were kids, even giving her homework. She started volunteering in schools and felt drawn to teaching.
Mrs. Douglas, another 8th-grade teacher, also loves her job. She said, “I feel proud when I see a student succeed, especially when a struggling student gets excited about learning.” She enjoys teaching 8th grade and believes it’s what she was meant to do. After working as a gossip reporter, she transitioned to teaching because of her passion for literature. She sees it as a challenge to get kids excited about reading and writing in a world filled with technology.
Students have also shared how their teachers have made a big difference in their lives. Natalie Philpot, an 8th-grade student, said, “I appreciate my teacher’s patience and kindness toward everyone.”
She described Mrs. Douglas as a great influence, saying, “She has impacted my life by always being kind and helpful.”
Philpot recalled a time when she wrote about injuring her knee in seventh grade, and Mrs. Douglas reminded her, “You are very strong because I would be crying on the floor.”
